Ratios Word Problems

Ratio problems deal with how quantities relate to each other — the number of boys to girls in a class, the proportion of ingredients in a recipe, or the scale of a map to actual distance. The core skill is setting up and solving proportions, but the real challenge is recognizing when a problem is a proportion problem in disguise. If a recipe serves 4 and you need to serve 7, every ingredient needs to scale by 7/4 — and you need to handle that cleanly even when fractions get messy. These problems also teach unit conversion, which is one of the most practical math skills you'll use in cooking, construction, travel, and science.
